Artists required for a Digital Art book project
Artists required for Digital Art book project
Alternatives
Alternative Futures - Without and alternative, there is no future
Esferico ltd. are looking for digital artists for a digital art book project. The project has the working title of 'Alternatives' and is essentially to be a display of digital art set in a very near future rubber-band science environment. As such, the book will cover a wide range of topics from transport to agriculture, architecture to power production.
There is a huge amount of scope for artist ideas.
The requirements of this project are based upon two stages.
Stage 1The current stage is the use of one or more artists, coupled with internal artwork produced by Esferico, as part of an exploratory exercise. The artwork produced in this phase must be of final, commercial quality as it will be incorporated in the final stage without modification.
This stage is intended to establish market information and decide on the publishing method / limitations. Stage 2The final stage of the project will be the use of one or more further artists in the preparation of further digital artwork for the final product. By this stage, the method and limitations of the publication will be known. The stage represents the full, final assembly of the publication. FinanceFor at least several months, this project is an exploratory exercise (though with every intention / probability of continuing). Finance is closely connected with the three levels of artist that will ultimately be involved.
Associate or Feature ArtistsAssociate or feature artists are required to take a particular concept / trial sketch to a logical conclusion. Artists undertaking this type of work will receive a (very) minimal payment per piece, based upon the nature of the concept (e.g. the concept may involve the building of a scene, but producing various pieces of artwork from various angles etc.)
The majority of payment for the associate or feature artist is seen as coming from a priority (i.e. higher) royalty award from final sales, along with inclusion of their profile as a feature artist. 'Paid' artistsPaid artists will receive a (very) minimal payment based upon individual works produced for the project, along with a royalty award from final sales. Paid artists will also recieve credit within the profile area of the book. Submission artistsInvitations will also be made for a much larger number of individuals (pre-vetted) to submit work to the project (in much the same way as Expose, for example). This level of artwork submission results in their inclusion within the profile section of the book. ProfilesAll profiles will include listings of the pieces produced for the book, skills range and contact information. ApplicationIf you are interested in any of these posts, please contact Sphynx by PM (preferred) or by replying to this post. Sphynx will provide you with a website address where you must attach a minimum of three examples of your completed work to the appropriate forum area.
It is preferable that this work shows a range of skills (e.g. modeling, texture painting etc) and with various subjects. At least one of the images must be a fully completed scene.
Both 2D and 3D pieces / artists are acceptable.
Selection of artists will take place in two stages. The first stage is submission of your work (please be aware, selection is NOT just the decision of Sphynx, but also other company directors / interested parties). The second stage will be wider access to the project website, which will allow further information regarding the various themes that are being discussed. Discussion
OK, from my point of view (Sphynx) none of these posts are 'in-house' - they are all work from home. In many ways, it is best to view these posts as a second-income or even leisure-time posts for extra cash, and not as a true 'income' role. While a one off payment will be made for artwork for artists in the approprate catagories, this payment will be small - at most a hundred pounds each subject. This is probably also a great opportunity for artists who are already involved in ecological / environmental work who want to get more exposure for their work.
In all ways, the benefits of being an artist on the project should come from the latter rewards: essentially Exposure, Royalties, and seeing your work in print. As a result of the increasing range of Eco-related companies in the world, there is a very good chance that the publication will not only end up on the shelves of individuals, but also organisations and corporates.
If you want to envisage the nature of the project (without reading too much into the theme), look to books such as Expose (Ballistic Publishing) and Syd Meads' Sentinel series (Oblagon Publishing). Chances are that there will be little, or at least second-priority, amounts of text.
Remember that while this may ultimately go out as an e-book (the least likely option, but always a possibility), this is being initially envisaged as a printed product - as such, high resolution renders would be the norm. At this stage there is a faint (and I mean faint) chance that a CD or DVD may accompany the piece, therefore also introducing the possibility of animated work.

Re: Artists required for a Digital Art book project
Sphynx has been around for a while and asked us permission to make this announcement. We had no problem with it and even thought it could be a good way for members who's work may be included to get some exposure. Good luck Buddy!

Re: Artists required for a Digital Art book project
Will do Russell. Things are building TBH, and there may be a contest brewing on Sci-Fi-Meshes to stir the pot. Not 100% sure yet, but we'll see.
