U.S. sues Salvation Army for speaking English

You don't see me posting this kind of stuff on the site, but it is something that annoyes and frustrates me to no end. Hence, I am posting it since I think U.S. citizens should know how pathetic the politicians and special interest groups in our country are.

I am so tired of things like hispanic community marches and ralleys scheduled and supported by our government during rush hour so everyone's life is adversely impacted. Impacted you say, well lets just add 2-3 hours to the commute home, what a bout the kidds in a latch key program at school that need to be picked up by 5:30...... the affects snow ball, but nobody cares, the squeaky wheel is the only one that gets oiled. Why? Because our politicians have the back bone of a chocolate eclaire and will do anything possible to jump aboard the gravy train that is the untapped voting resource of the hispanic community, even if it means constantly screwing over middle class america who carries this country on their backs.

Excuse my ranting but the following story is just one of many similar things occuring in this country and middle class america needs to speak out or get trampled on as usual. I get nothing out of running this site so I feel I can voice an opinion once in a great while!

Quote:

The headline is correct. The Federal Government has filed suit against the Salvation Army and is targeting other businesses that require employees to speak English on the job.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store being targeted by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EEOC) clearly posted its "speak English" requirements and gave employees one year to learn the language. But the EEOC still filed suit saying this was a "civil rights" violation.
And it's getting worse. Last year, over 200 similar charges were filed with the EEOC -- up from just a handful ten years ago.
+ + Nancy Pelosi sides with EEOC's anti-English attacks
To make matters worse, Nancy Pelosi and Congress' Hispanic Caucus have teamed up to block an effort to put an end to the EEOC's attacks on businesses that require English.
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) proposed a provision to the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Bill (HR 3093, S. 1745) that would prevent the EEOC from such legal attacks. The full Senate passed the bill--with the Alexander provision. The House also greed to the amendment, but later withdrew support after the Hispanic Caucus threatened to stonewall other House bills unless the provision was removed. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi agreed, saying the House will not vote on the bill until the English language provision is terminated.
John, in other words, Pelosi and a small group of Congressmen are defending the EEOC's efforts to sue organizations like the Salvation Army that require English on the job!

++ Tell Pelosi and the Hispanic Caucus "English is spoken here"
Grassfire is urging ALL members of our team to take immediate action in two critical ways:
1. Call Nancy Pelosi and demand she move H.R. 3093
forward with the Alexander provision.
Here is her contact information: 202/225-4965
2. Fax the Speaker of the House and the Hispanic Caucus
demanding they stop devaluing the English language.
To schedule your personalized faxes to Nancy Pelosi
and members of the Hispanic Caucus, click here:

John, as citizens we cannot allow a small group of lawmakers
to hold Congress hostage while they support the EEOC's anti-English attacks!
+ + Action Expected Within Days
Before Congress closes up shop for the year, Nancy Pelosi will push this bill forward. That's why over the next week, I want to flood her office and every member of the Hispanic Caucus with thousands of phone calls and faxes saying "We speak English in America!"
I believe grassroots Americans can make a significant enough impact on Pelosi to have her move the bill forward with the Alexander provision intact. But it starts with you.
Schedule your personalized faxes right now by clicking here:
http://www.grassfire.org/25042/offer.asp?rid=14158081
If you don't want to take advantage of Grassfire's Faxfire fax technology, send the faxes on your own by downloading the targets, and letters--that you can personalize!
Regardless of the method you choose, I urge you to TAKE ACTION!
Remember, Nancy Pelosi will move this bill forward before the end of the year. That means within the next two weeks, something will be done on this bill.
Before that happens, I want to make certain you and I have "weighed-in" on this critical issue that attacks our sovereignty and national identity.
Thanks for your phenomenal support of Grassfire.

Re: U.S. sues Salvation Army for speaking English

Well, in a way I am glad to see that you get to be critical about this area of our lives...
It is good to see that people can read between the lines and see more than usuall turning head the other way...
But...
What to do?
I am generally discusted over the way that politicians in my country do their job... and I am also discusted by global politics which is greatly influenced by US foreign politics... In some way we are all pawns in their game... one interconnected hipocritic, dirty game... One feeding the other...
If I may take a liberty to comment, as no US citizen, I spoted long time ago one typical way that US power groups deal with the speaking up and protesting people... After the dark period of whitch hounting, there is now completelly different method, yet much more efficient - you protest, you criticize, but after some time you become the institution yourself... like Bob Dylan or anybody else... you move from a margine to the mainstream... and no more sharp sting, no more reall social envolvment...
That is just my opinion on it of course...
On the other hand, I would embrace such progress in my country... here, we simply have short memory... one day there is affair, next day, we forget all about it... we forget who started the war, who was criminal, who was corrupted... Any kind of reall criticism is long dead and gone...
At least in US some criticism exists... society without critic is dumed IMHO...
But enoguh on that... I just wanted to pause a question, what a man can do against general hipocricy and injustice?

Re: U.S. sues Salvation Army for speaking English

I don't know what you can do except for make more noise than the next guy to get attention from politicians. But I think you have to speak up and say something, it is going to be a dark day in the US when middle class America get tired of being crapped on for everyone elses special interest.

I truly believe one simple modification in our political system would take it from a facade of democracy and a voice of the people to an actual system of accountability and true checks and balances and above all, the average citizen would know what a politician believed in, or at least their voting sensibilty.

That small change is LINE ITEM VOTING for legislature. Until we get that our system is a hypocritical hoax of the grandest scale. Of course we won't get that, politicians and lawmakers couldn't hide the fact that they are puppets to special interest and lobbyist. And of course the lobbyist and special interest will exert every option available including blackmail and withdrawl of funds and payoffs in regards to politicians to make sure a bill is a package of hodge podge legislative, some of which even contradictory to one another where in the eleventh hour more junk is added so that it can ride piggy back on the rest of the bill and get snuck past everyone.

What can one person do? I have seen individuals devote years of their life to getting the voters to pass legislation only to have the government overturn it next chance they get because it cuts into their funding, an example would be vehicle liscensing/car tabs in Washington State. As long as our system is set up so that there is no accountability, I don't think we can do much with lasting impact, yes complacency is easier than futile attempts at making a difference.

That is all I am going to say, I don't vote, no reason to, can't tell what anyone stands for or even their voting record really is, so I guess I shouldn't complain, and I won't get into geo-politics, I have a realist perception of the world.

Don't get me started on taxes and fees based on your income, the rich get screwed. One quick point in case and it ties back to the car tab item mentioned above. The newer and more expensive your car is the more you pay for car tabs, however the old run down vehicles wear done the road and pollute our environment more. Our whole system is to punish the successful. By the way, I grew up poor and ain't rich now, it isn't as if I am wealthy and have an affluent perspective on all, I am just a realist and know what fair really is.

Still proud to be an American!
