here is what neha talking about..... the ies viewer.... now its here ready to download. i also include some ies files ( 14 category courtesy of lithonia lighting products), i post six category here, the rest will soon to follow until i compiled it up.

GUIDELINES TO USE THIS:
1. Install the IESviewersetup.
2. Open your 3d max
3. Go to Customize User Interface (CUI) then to Toolbar, click new and type IES Viewer. Then browse at Category below Group and look for the IES Viewer item. Drag it to the free space of the newly created tool bar (namely ies viewer) in the drawing menu.
TO USE IES FILE:
1. click lights at Object Category in Menu Panel, browse for Photometrics and add lights anything you want; say free linear lights
2. On the free linear, go to distribution and browse for WEB.
3. then go to WEB Parameters and click web file box (marked <none>). once you click it, a dialog box will appear looking for your IES file. Browse for the location of your IES file you have downloaded and click the kind of IES you want. Your IES now is in use. Render some scene to see the effect.
4. to view the characteristics and appearance of your ies, click the light you use then go to menu bar and click IES Viewer, then click SET IES TO PHOTOMETRIC. The ies viewer dialog box will be activated, press control R and the ies you use will be render.
