I've been tinkering with Maxwell again since the recent release of 1.5. The new policy regarding the use of all available processors per computer instead of limiting it to two processors per license has made this software almost usable.
I use SketchUp for most of the modeling. Low poly models (see the table top and base in the rendering cause problems, so the modeling skills and polygon count need to improve if I were to use it seriously for work.
My advice to anyone using the the SketchUp to Maxwell combination would be to SKIP the direct "plugin-to render" route. The plugin is still a disaster. Instead export a mxs and open with Studio. Studio is much better that it use to be and seems to work fairly well.
This is a sketchUp model I made several years ago. Exported as an mxs and used Studion fo textures and multi-light (great feature). This still have to run overnight, but it's alot better than it use to be for darker interior shots. Use Noise Ninja a bit and added the outside image in Photoshop.
Also duplicated the layers and and did a high-pass filter on the copy, then set the layer to overlay. Adjust the opacity to your particular tastes. Really sharpens up the the details. Picked up that tip from Rob at the Modo forum. Thanks Rob.

Thanks. I use to use the plugin exclusively in the old days when it worked better. Studio is really the way to go. It's not much different than the plugin. Things are better organized. I just have to get the hang of managing the geometry. I think you'll pick it up pretty fast.
Jake, real nice, allthough the light locations in the ceiling bother me a bit
This was an old model I threw together for testing Maxwell when I first started using it. Nothing was where it is suppose to be at the time. I should see if we have a RCP and furniture plan yet. Should get it right!
Hey Jake, really nice work. I like the render .....
