Starbucks W.I.P.

I work as a baristo in one of our Starbucks. This is my first descent attempt at anything architecual, im still a noob, ive spen 5 hrs on this so far, i just slapped the textures on for the render so its deff not final, and i still have a lot of modeling to do. I did have a problem texturing a few things, such as the wood that the lights are attached to, it was suposed to be the same wood as the molding under the counter, but it just turned brown, same with the other brown support below the lights, those are the only things i used spline modeling for, so maybe that is the prob. also i just threw some lights in there for the render, so i know that blows too...crits wanted.

Re: Starbucks W.I.P.

Good start Leon, the first thing I would do is eliminate the faceting on your curved objects. THen I would bring in some more lights to help fade out the large floor shadow, even some ambient light might help that. Then I would add some baseboard to the two back walls, even if they are just rubber base, if they have a bit of a shoe on them it will really help the scene look more finished, in my opinion

Great start and I think this might be the first CG modeling/rendering that you have posted here, but I could be wrong. How is school going?

Re: Starbucks W.I.P.

Nice start Leon. Adding few more objects in the scene will be easy to understand and give advice. Make sure the edge of your furniture should be smooth. I also agree with Russell.
Observation is the main thing before making a scene or any model in 3D
Waiting to see more updates in that scene......

Re: Starbucks W.I.P.

good call on the molding where the walls hit the floor, also i know what u mean about the furniture needing to be smooth....how would i acomplish this? i tried teselating it and then a turbosmoooth, but it turned out with smooth folds and creases....thanx so much for the critiques.

Re: Starbucks W.I.P.

I dont use teselate options for adding segments. I think here you have to select the edge segments and go for champer in edit poly to make the corner smooth. Otherwise adding few ring segments and go for meshsmooth modifier . If you want to make models with splines then go for bezier or smooth spline with higher interpolation say for example 8 to 10 or may be sometimes 12......

Re: Starbucks W.I.P.

awsome thanx neil, is there a way to just modify part of a polygon? like add a meshsmooth to like the sides of an object, without useing the "detach" in sub-object mode?

Re: Starbucks W.I.P.

I don't remember much about 3dsMax. But I know it's possible. And it's a function called smoothing groups. I think it's in the edit poly modifier. But I think a quick search in the help file will result in more reliable information.
