Re: house 3808

Nice rendering overall... However agree with comments above... The trees are problem still... too flat...
Roof tiles look better... but modeling them would improve it even more... for classical roof tiles in case like this, time for modeling is actually less than half an hour...
For the street, use the texture on Ambient light textures, there are free samples and there is very good street texture...
ambientLight - ReMOSitory

Russell, idea for plug in is good one... I could work on a script for Max or set of actions for Modo, but thing is, modeling roof tiles is a bit intuitive process...

Yes, but if you could make something that worked the majority of the time and you could edit it manually the other part of the time, you would really have something useful.

Like this, a set of modifiers or scripts that you apply to any surface, vert, horiz, sloped..... and it applied a geometry, such as tile, shiplap siding, whatever. It would have the option to not to to the edge or openings so that you could perhaps extrude trim at windows and doors and capping at ridges and hips.........., it just seems to me like a great architectural feature, how about like a modified 'Greeble system that was ordered instead of random, even do patterns like brick, shingle, tile roof, you get me, I think it would be an awesome script/plugin

While at it a 'Roof Builder' plugin that you trace the roof outline in plan and tell it the slope and overhang and it makes the appropriate sloped slab and you can easily creat awesome roofs. May as well do walls and parametric windows........... I am never happy

But really why not have the basic features that say ADT/Revit have for creating architectural models inside of Max, because heaven knows the models from those programs don't come into Max very well Actually I am probably going the wrong directionl the BIM programs should have better rendering solutions built in

Re: house 3808

Beside the fact you ask too much Russell, the idea is good...
However, the max is in essence polygonal modeler and parametric modifiers can make great things in Max, but in the end you still have the polygons to render...
So, it is different logic than AEC or BIM...
However you can make the roofs based on the outline in Max with simply using one modifier... Not that it would always work well, but generaly it is good method for start.
It is bevel profile modifier that you assign to spline/outline of the object...

Re: house 3808

Hey buddy, I will just wait for your tutorial series But what I was thinking of was something like 'Facade' by Robert McNeel and Associates, it may be available for Rhino still, just a program that automated some chores
