Concept Architecture

Hello here I am exploring this idea for cantilever floor. IS this possible to build in real life ? The ground building has 6 pillar in centre which is very strong reinforced base. If any architect or guy who knows his stuff help me please? I would like to know if this building wil work ? Thanks you very much everybody.

Re: Concept Architecture

Probably not the way it is shown, but it could possibly be made to work if you had a huge footing and mass to counteract the tilt of having more force applied outside the perimeter of the lower level, but then their is the question of what the floor strucuture system is and if it can withstand the canti-levered forces applied to it.

So the answer is that it can be built to work, but probably not the way you were planning and not with conventional light timber framing. IMHO

Re: Concept Architecture

Russell, isn't it a rule of thumb for light framing that a canti max should be the ratio of 1 cant to 2 supported by foundation?

Re: Concept Architecture

it is very feasible but you might be spending too much just to strengthen your cantilever. The cantilever alone might actually cost you the same amount as the house built on ground.

Re: Concept Architecture

it is possible, just provide a tension support from the cantilever end to the main column support. necessary structural calculations and analysis might help...

Yes it is, that is why I qualified that we didn't have enough information to answer out right. But you are correct, about 1/3 of the span secured withing the footprint of the structure to resist the moment forces.

The question was, can this be built and they show an image, this shows how they want it to look, so canti-levered slab must match the thickness shown and their this no mast or cable support structure shown, so I stick by my first response Of course almost anything CAN be built, but this one probably is hitting the diminishing returns boundry

Re: Concept Architecture

I will post more pics. The dimension are not accurate, so the slab can be thicker if it has too ?
