the beginnings of a personal project, leading to an exercise in volumetric lighting. Still a lot to go, just thought i'd show it as i build it... please, C&C. Thanks

Hey Rod, looking good, I would lose the shiny floor, tighten up the spacing of the balusters in back, they are not to code (max space of 4" apart) and center the columns under the load bearing portion of the arched vault coming down so that the load isn't eccentric on the columns. The columns seem too slender to me and need a base. Keep it up!

Yet all experience is an arch wherethro’ Gleams that untravell’d world, whose margin fades For ever and for ever when I move. How dull it is to pause, to make an end.....
its coming up nicely, some more modeling details and final light setup will make this one a spot on!

You have a nice lighting situation for start... Russell pointed couple of things, I would just add that you may try to use camera correction of if you use Vray physical camera, than hit the button guess vertical shift and the columns will get vertical (that is if you did not wanted them to be slanted)
As for volumetric light, I wonder where would you apply it?
It is usually done when you have sunlight coming in from som dome windows or from the skylight window... The back window is nice, but I am not sure how much the volume light effect would be visible as it is facing camera directly. That effect is most apparent when the sun rays are orthogonal to the camera direction...
Thanks Branko, the volume light I am wanting is to highlight the light streaming in from the stainglass window. To kinda show the atmosphere lit by the different colored light rays, if that makes sense. I did an real quick test on a simple room and it seems as though one would need a much darker lighting level to make it work well. Camera correction, I've mixed thoughts about. I plan to do a couple of different shots. This is very early, I hope to add a lot more to the scean. Guess I'll end up figureing out the 3gb switch thing I keep seeing in posts LOL. Russell, I've left the bases off on purpose as the pews will cover that part and I'm trying to save some memory for other items. The floor you're absolutely correct about that. I think it should be darker. Doin some modeling this morning but won't have time to post an update for a day or two... work keeps getting in the way....

Hey, it looks nice! I know what you want to do with volume light, but you are right, whole room should be darker...
The other issue is what I already told you, that effect is more visible when the light is perpendicular to the camera path...
As for memory, I would advise you to convert to Vray proxy all the objects that are repeating... so you can add lot of detail on the column and convert to proxy, than multiply it as much as you need and still not have the actual geometry in the scene, so you are light as a feather... same about your seats and other repeating stuff...
