Re: HELP! with mental ray fur

As opposed to this (render with fur OFF)

Re: HELP! with mental ray fur

Ddelcast,
I think it may be an atmospheric affect and hence messing with your background, I don't know off hand what settings you should play with. You might want to play with Grass-O-Matic for free or for MentalRay there is a set of shaders called 'SuperGrass'

Grass-O-Matic and a bunch of re-compiled commercial plugins from Sysyphus are now offered for free at: MAX Plugins.de - the plugin database for 3ds Max If you are running 64 bit you will want to go to the home page and work your way through via the 64 bit options.

SuperGrass can be found here: Super Grass Download page

Good luck!

I think you used Environment map. You can use a box as an environmental map or use a cylindrical map.
I used fur modifier to making grass. You can see the image. here is the link.

Re: HELP! with mental ray fur

My advice would be to try with displacement... it can get you nice result and it is much more predictable, especially on such large surfaces...
Second thing, you need much more work to get perfect grass directly from render than to enhance it in postwork, so you may want to render simple displacement grass and than use some photos and textures to paint over it, do some collage untill you are satisfied with it... check this link, I posted it on forums some time ago, but here it is again, great images with lot of postwork...
