A log home render for a client, I am struggling to get the wood color right, and Moreover the roof looks rather plain even after displacement map was added - these were my observations on the renders. Need your C & C to improve
Done in 3ds Max 8 and v ray.
EDIT: Removed missing attachments. Neha

hey kittea, i just think you should go for a darker or maybe dirtier wood, and you're right about roof, it looks not that good, will it work for you placing a regular shape instead of this one? i think it'll give a better look mixing tones from dark grey to brown and then to dark brown to get the wood make it's own statement on your project. just my POV.

Reason: typo (s) :P
It is looking good, the shingles are kind of tiling and they look like they are rotated 90, but I could be wrong. I think you have a handle on what to work on and the rest looks really good.

Darker color of the wood definitelly... The roof would look much better with non repeating texture... even plain color would be good, since you have displacement... Only other way is to model the tiles... which is possible, but painfull process...
But overall, nice work, especially on the modeling aspect and I think with little tweaking you could make it great...
Hey kiittea. Looking good so far. with the wood, maybe tone down the picture map and have a less saturated diffuse colour underneth it, and maybe up the bump on it, that should help with the over saturated colour. And roof tiles are always a pain in the ass!, I used to just use a plain and picture map but now model them individually, takes a little longer but overall effect is worth it. easiest way is too make one tile, copy and make a sheet then cut it to fit your roof shape..... hope this helps, good luck with it!
Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. I shall tone down the wood color. and Yeah I shall try modelling the roof as you guys suggested. shall post the updated one soon.

Hello Kishore, Nice work. Modeling, rendering and lighting are looks good indeed. The wooden texture is very much contrasty, you can go for bit different shades....
