"Architectural Wonder" ContestContest Thread for Contest Entries. Post entries as per Contest Rules Here. Contest closed to further Entries.
while reading the brief of this contest an obvious "marvel" came up to my mind and I'd like to take the opportunity to visualize it!
Excerpt from Wikipedia:
“According to a story in Genesis, the Tower of Babel was a tower built by a united humanity in order to reach the heavens. To prevent the project from succeeding, God confused their languages so that each spoke a different language and the work could not proceed. After that time, people moved away to different parts of Earth.”
Nowadays, with help of various technologies, humanity is trying to unite again. In fact, a tower is an attempt to unify human presence and forces. Languages disappear, differences between humans are getting smaller. Isn’t it time to try to reach the heavens again? As we are living in an era were economics take place over ethics, the tower will have to be inhabited. Its location should be close to water and adjacent to a metropolis to supply the tower with building materials and the workforce necessary to build it.
See sketch. Other ideas to come.

Nice idea. I specially liked the concept of it being a contemporary Tower of Babel. Just curious though as to how you are going to differentiate this building from any other "Tall" building.
you'll have to be tolerant with my manners here, it's the first time I activelly participate to such a forum. I'm not really aware of the Net_iquette...
To Diego, a very good point! I first had sth. like the "infinite tower" , "the endless tower" or tour sans finS from Jean Nouvel. Actually, re-reading the brief, the architectural concept should be fairly different from that. I totally agree upon the fact that a tower of babel or "be_belle" shouldn't mimic a high-rise building. I'll think about that.

I am glad we were able to lure you into forum participation! It can sometimes be hard to interpret what someone meant in their post, attitude wise. I have read a post before and thought someone was coming across a little hostile and then read it an hour later and wondered why I had gotten that impression. I try to interpret peoples comments in the most positive fashion possible and hope they do the same with mine!
Looking forward to seeing/reading more design development!

When I think of the concept and the name of this site, I think this concept has great potential to "allude" to something that already is an architectural wonder. What I mean by that is everyone has preconceived notions and if you can "allude" to them you may have a step up on the other contestants who are trying to create a type of 'Icon' fresh from scratch. Not that fresh from scratch isn't very innovative and has the potential to create a new vocabulary of architectural wonder. I am just saying a new fresh Greek/Roman temple is going to catch the laymans attention due to their preconception of classical architecture. On the other side of the coin the final judging is by very talented designers who probably won't be as supceptable to preconceptions and will select what they see as the best solution to the assignment!

The tower is a great idea! I'm wondering where your concept of a "tower" will evolve, extending beyond our traditional images of the monument. Also looking forward to the possibility of grand scale and complex human scaled detail within one balanced image. Oh well...plenty of time to get there. Looking forward to your progress.
