Hanging above, a leaf on a tree,
Receding below, rings of infinity.
Slices of life, below and above,
I gaze up from the earth, from atop stares a dove.

Wow! The sketch showing the form jutting out is very powerful and your modeling is coming along nicely, Great work! I am wondering about the name of the project it appears 'AboveWorld' so to speak, but I am sure it will all make sense in the end. Glad to have you as part of the contest. Good Luck!

One of the underlying inspirations for this concept came from a quick trip through Tokyo and Osaka a few years back when I was really struck by the presence and the effect of some of the buildings that I saw. In particular I had a very humbling experience standing below some of the buildings that stood suspended above me, as opposed to the standard glass tower. Not merely jutting their presence into the sky these structures enveloped and overwhelmed me on quite a different level that’s hard to describe. I distinctly remembered walking away being amazed and inspired by this experience.
Loosely referencing some of the ancient wonders like the Great Pyramid of Giza & the Hanging Gardens of Babylon - Kadious I wanted to create a structure based on that inspired experience. Akin to a suspended micro community on a somewhat large architectural stage complete with offices, residential apartments, gardens and mini forests maintained and nourished by recycled captured water, paths, alleyways and perhaps even some small roads. Another aim is to create a structure that inspires you from many different vantage points. I'd like people to be awed not just looking up but also while inside the tower looking down, standing on one of that stratum plates gazing across a communal expanse stretching into the sky, and while traversing and negotiating the levels. I also want to somewhat stray away from the usual ways of navigating a space such as this and introduce a myriad of ways to get from (a) to (b). From cable cars running along the rigging, incline trains traversing the slopes, standard vertical lifts, escalators, to people using bikes and scooters to get around. A constant hive of activity.
Good luck to everyone
Regards,
Alan.

That is exactly what we want you to try and capture with your piece. That which moves and inspires you. Awe and wonder is what I would most like to capture in architecture. Very cool, I wish you the best of luck in capturing the emotions and qualities that you are striving for.

Thank you for your kind support - very appreciated. You have yourselves a very supportive place here.
No you haven't lost me ... I've just been extremely busy past 3 weeks covering for my boss - who went to Butan btw. So I've had a bit of an intensive session last night and will continue pretty much as flat out as I can till the dead line.
As you can see the concept is slightly changed. What worried me was how to cantilever that huge massing so I decided to run the plate back down to ground level. To me it makes for a stronger image / iconografy and fit's in a much better with my idea of this being a community building. Not isolated space. So basically you can also enter the plate from ground level.
Because of the scale and the tilted geometry I had to really sit down and figure out the way the modules work clone and interlock into place. A lot of testing. Also, because I want to alter the cloned geometry after it's placed I had to think a bit about defining selection sets - bit's that I want to grab and manipulate afterwards.
I'll be posting more as I go along
