Architectural Wonder II ContestContest 'Work in Progress' Submissions
hi allusionist, for some reason I have found myself doing some pre production stuff just using primitive shapes etc. Can I submit this as my sketch instead of doing a hand drawn sketch?
here are some examples, added a photoshop filter to make it look more hand drawn, please let me know if this is ok.
mahorela,
It would be best if you did a simple sketch, nothing spectacular, once I start bending the rules, it becomes a full time job keeping everything fair for everyone and making concessions on every entry. The sketch is a just a concept diagram quickly done so that we can try to make sure the entry meets the rules before the artist foucus's a lot of time on their entry. It is a milestone of the contest best to meet it.
Cheers!
Russell

Russell, is it ok to change the title of my submission later? or not?
We want a title with 'Name - Project' from the start, but if you need to change the name of the project itself down the road, we can do that, entries may evolve and change during the process, that is acceptable.

Just individuals I am afraid, we want to see a project by one person as it evolves through the design process. Funny you should ask, in the past I have seen people advertise on 'Craig's List' for someone to do a portion of their entry! LOL I felt like the site had made it big when I saw that

A question came up in one of the entry threads, and I thought I would post it here to make sure people aren't mis-understanding the contest assignment. We are not limiting entries to classical architecture.
Question:
Quote:
okay nice concept ... i like it ... but just out off curiousity ...and for my information ...where are the classical forms or spaces, which the contest assignment lays out ..... the building that you have sketched out would make it as a nice architectural wonder... but i was just wondering where the classical part fits in ..
Answer:
Quote:
The intro paragraph is to establish a sense of wonder and a context for the artist, it was not meant to limit contestants to classical forms, but to allude to the 8th wonder of the world type structure. The goal is to create an architectural icon so to speak using new or old forms in the context of modern construction techniques and materials in whatever vocabulary the artist believes makes it a 'wonder to behold'. Of course historic structures come to mind since they are socially and pysychologically linked in our minds as architectural marvels, but the artist has the creative license to redefine that concept with their design, basically creating something grand and well designed that captures the viewers imagination.
I hope that clears up the assignment, we in no way want to tie the artist hands by limiting the genre of their entry, we just want it to be a wonder to behold!

“Architectural Wonder”: You are standing on a vantage point overlooking the most impressive example of architecture you have ever seen. The aesthetics seem to speak to you and you have to wonder about those who created such an impressive masterpiece. The forms and spatial hierarchy seem classical, alluding to some great historical wonder of the world, yet the materials and construction techniques seem to be appropriate to the 21st century.
This is what is giving the impression that we have to base our new architectural style in one or more of the ancient world styles. I have to admit that i had that impression too!!
