Architectural Wonder II ContestContest 'Work in Progress' Submissions
Note: This is an example entry to give people an idea of a WIP based contest. Actual images should be attachments so that larger versions can be seen and so that the thread doesn't get full of broken links over time. Please use 'Go Advanced' to edit entries and use the 'Manage Attachments' below the main text entry box to add and change attachments as necessary. In addition a real entry would have comments/suggestions from the community and the artist is encouraged to participate in this interaction and post comments/suggestions in other contestants threads as well. The artist will post more progress shots than demonstrated here, this was just an abbreviated example entry so that people know what is expected.
Hello, my name is John Doe, good luck to everybody! My concept is a tower that stands out at the center of my scene as a wonder to behold. I am undecided on the setting of my scene, whether it is in a cityscape or in a landscape setting, I am sure the concept will evolve as my entry progresses.
Below is my initial concept sketch:

Ok, it is time to start texturing and seeing how this developes, this is not the actual textures I will use, but more of a color study. Looking a little sterile, I need to see what I can do about that.

Ok, I am taking peoples suggestions and in this image I am combining the refinement of my texturing and lighting, reversing the colors and adding global illumination.
Still looks sterile, I need to figure that out and my setting?

Well I thought about the scene looking sterile so I am taking a new direction and making it a tower being over run by the landscape, slowly losing a battle against father time. The scene doesn't look as sterile now, but it looks kind of empty and the tower seems small. Here is a post dealing with rendering.
Keep the comments coming

Running out of time, this will be my final image and the only post production work is the mist around the upper part of the tower done in PhotoShop. I tried to make the scene busier and less sterile while juxtapositioning the tower in a contrasting scene to make it hopefully a wonder to behold and the center of attention. I would like to redo the scene with the trees smaller to make the tower seem larger, but I just ran out of time, but knew I had to post the final by the contest deadline. Good luck everybody!
P.S. I uploaded the large format TIF version on the FTP as required and believe I have met all the contest requirements.
Addendum:
Final submission can be a composite of one Main image consisting of a minimum of 75% of the composition, with smaller images and logo set off to the side, top or bottom to re-inforce your design intent. No images or text/logo is to infringe upon your main image, you cannot super-impose graphics on top of the 'Main Image'. This will allow us or the sponsors to use your image (With full credit given to the artist) or main image for promotional purposes of the contest or if permission is given as outlined in the contest rules for other promotions. As the rules state the artist maintains the right to their work, but may recieve some additional exposure from this Site or Sponsors.
Paulo has been gracious enough to spend some time on a possible layout and develop my schematic layout much further. This is just a suggestion, a single image is quite acceptable, but if you want to use additional images to reinforce your image something like this is acceptable. You may adjust the layout, just make sure the main 'money shot' composes around 75% of the composition and that no other graphics, logo or text intrudes upon that main shot. You may have a more linear panoramic layout such as the supporting image on top or on the bottom, the layout is up to you. In a addition we are not requiring you to add the sites name to the image, Paulo just thought it was a good way to help the site get more exposure. Adding your name and copyright is probably a good idea.
The pixels outlined are suggestions based on the final image requirements, a 72 dpi image can be increased to a higher dpi suitable for print down the road, use your own judgement but meet the contest requirements.
The following is an example set up by Paulo for a previous contest.

Russell, it's a nice example and participants will know now how to proceed with the contest.
