Architectural Wonder II ContestContest 'Work in Progress' Submissions
games/sports/contest have been used throughout history to distract and/or energize massive populations by not-so-beneficent leaders. imagine a post-apocolyptic arena reaching into the sky reflecting the glory of a ruling elite amid the human and environmental ruin that their leadership has produced.
that's my story, and i'm stickin' to it.
honestly, i need to research stadia and such over history to nail down the generic forms and masses of such structures, then translate that into something forward looking. sketches as soon as possible
MooseDog , very impressive thinking looking forward to see your sketch.

i hope this qualifies as a sketch , if not let me know.
i know, atm it looks like a bathtub with a weird crucifix , but i did do some research. the thing at the end is, again basically, the flavian ampitheater in rome, as it exists today, only turned up on its side.
not the first time a ruling elite/despot has turned to rome for imagery and control.
the other thing is basically the circus maximus, also in rome, wherein our modern the games are held, as they were in the past.
going for basic structure and form here, nothing else. velarium will also be a part of the mix.
the structure will be iron and concrete, reasonably faithful to the construction of both (that's the challenge to this wonder )
MD,
We ask that you do an actual sketch, it can be done on the computer, but is freehand, it is one of the milestones of the contest. I know a lot of you don't like that requirement and I myself tend to model the forms, but have found that the time it takes to sketch out a concept seems to really aid in the developement of a concept. Just need to be fair to everybody and keep the same requirements, nobody is judging the sketch as part of the entry, you will not be penalized for a bad or quick sketch.
