Architectural Wonder II ContestContest 'Work in Progress' Submissions
Seeing that the contest was prolonged I decided to join in the fun! I know I’m no patch to the stuff I see here, but I thought I'd give it a try...
The idea is to create a living environment almost a micro architectural “cosmos” of city and living space/ nature, within each other…
The first philosophy (Metaphysics) is universal and is exclusively concerned with primary substance. ... And here we will have the science to study that which is, both in its essence and in the properties which, just as a thing that is, it has. ... That among entities there must be some cause which moves and combines things. ... There must then be a principle of such a kind that its substance is activity.
(Aristotle, 340BC)
Fire a way….

Just to elaborate a bit more on how this structure works. There will be:
• ‘lived in’ levels
• garden levels
• office levels
• retail & entertainment in the sphere
But this is still in the development stage… and just to show that things are changing. Here is an update…
Thanks guys for the encouraging words...

Been battling with the sheer size of my project. Wanted to abandon it at one stage, but I will push forward and hope that my machine will handle the size of it...
Here is some advances to my project... still a lot of mistakes concerning the texturing...
Comments please.
PS. Give some direction into what sort of programs is used for the modeling and rendering... I'm learning all the time.

as for the render i think you should get rid of that grass...and work on the steel...cause in two of your shots has a lot of reflection...but still looking confusing...i think you should get rid of it...and start wroking from a single material or two...and then tweak the light so it can show you where to go from there...
Congratulations Pieter, you are already done with most of the modeling! As anonyma said, start with a single/few minimal textures which will be the main materials of the scene and will mostly decide on the look and feel of the final outputs. I would also suggest you to keep your color palette limited and play more in terms of finish/lights/shadows rather than using many colors which creates confusion in the scene and tends to divert the viewer's attention from the main structure.
This is also the right time to decide upon the final angles as you are through with the modeling bit. After then, tweak things as per those shots. You still have lots of time in hand...so keep playing with the lights and textures till you get that perfect look you want...and we all are here to help you out and give suggestions on the way
