How can I do a Night animation...

Hi all!

I have a little problem with my new project. I need some help right now! I have to do a night animation as fast as possible. I do some test in this case but not so good, How can I do a Night animation? I mean a really good night shot. I tried a lot of variation but I can't find the right way! I missed the atmosphere what you can feel in the night on the street! My results are too bright or too dark whatever not good. Have you any tips or trick how can i make that illusion in studiomax8 with vray?
I attach my last test, to see you what I'm talking about.
Any comment or critic or suggestion are welcome.

(sorry my english, I hope you can understand my words)

Thank you your help!

I would recommend first get an sort of even illumination, then put lights in all the streets lights and some inside of the buildings, then in post work you can fix the contrast of your video, make it darker or bright, also you can add glow to your lights and other stuff.
Don't try to do everything from the 3D software it will give you a very long frame time for your animation.

Re: How can I do a Night animation...

FIrst light the whole scene with HDRI or Vray sky map with low intensity and appropriate color, dark blue-red or something... than add some object lights inside of the buildings (Vray light material) to simulate inside lights...
Than add some accent lights as fco3d pointed out, on the street (for those you can also use light material instead or real lights)
Finally you can use a Vray sphere light simillar as sun or Vray sun with bluish color and very low intensity, like moonlight, put above the center of scene to get some more light and cleaner GI...
Rest could be done in postwork...

Thank you guys to try to help me out! I'm much obliged your comments! I'll follow your advice to do this animation! I'll attach another pic, as soon as I can! About the window: the inside lighting will be fixed with after effect later.
Thank you!
