new arch viz blog Hi everyone, shameless self promotion? OK then!
I've taken part in the Stoos Arkitekten Charrette (exterior), but otherwise not posted much at all. Promise I'll try to participate more in future!
Just wanted to say that I have started a new blog on my website which will focus on arch viz tutorials. Probably vray-centric but some of the texture/material ones I have planned should be applicable to all renderers..
If theres anything specific you'd like me to cover feel free to make requests!
Cheers,

Re: new arch viz blog Thanks Peter, your blog filled in some remiss reading on vray sp3 features on my part. I was glad to see the atmosphere feature!!! Good stuff, thanks. A doctor can bury his mistakes but an architect can only advise his clients to plant vines. - Frank Lloyd Wright -

Re: new arch viz blog Shameless plugs are fine around here as long as they are for something users here would find interesting/useful, if you start selling refurbished cell phones we probably wouldn't want to hear about it, but a user blog is perfectly fine. You can also submit it into our directory system.
I will take a better gander at your blog when I get a chance, but I have checked out your site before as I try to look at everyones. Looks like good stuff!
I haven't installed Vray SP3 yet, I would be interested for an overview of it and mr's archdesign material use as supposedly it is compatible and since I started MrMaterials.com it is good to stay on top of all angles.
Great entries in the challenges by the way, you are doing some top knotch work! -

Re: new arch viz blog thanks guys,
I have added a non vray tutorial for a change (on making HDRs), and plan to do some on textures soon.
re: vray SP3, the things i'm most interested in is the fog, and the fact that elements such as zdepth now respect transparency. I think the other main thing is that you can use any mesh as a direct light source. Havent tried the support for archdesign materials yet.
Cheers,

Re: new arch viz blog Hey Peter! thanks for sharing your site and blog updates, i find it astonishing and clean as for the way it communicates content.
will stop to read your tutorial really soon, very interesting what you mention about your similar approach between photography and archvis, it is one idea that i've been thinking about regarding the design process and the way students can use it to understand (at first sight) and then walk thru a better practice of the project issues...
something like from photography to design and viceversa...
really looking forward to elaborate on that ideas, if you interested let me know hector allier - mx -

Re: new arch viz blog I've been think along these lines recently, but perhaps more thinking selfishly about what i can learn from good architectural photographers. It seems that what the architectural photographer seeks to do is to distill the image of a building down to an aspect that interests him/her. It must be aesthetically pleasing, but also be educational to the viewer in that it describes what the building is like.
In the modeling (sketchup) stage of my work, I am trying more and more to visualise (in my head) the building as I want to present it while I explore and build it up on the screen in front of me. I sometimes even try to imagine myself waking round it as if i had my camera in my hand! I think composition is probably the one area where the majority of 3d visualisers fall down compared to traditional photography. 3d design maybe isnt free enough yet to allow the amount of exploration that you need.
I suspect I'm slightly off track here compared to where you were going! Are you talking about students of architecture? Certainly the act of modeling a building does build up an appreciation of potential problem areas and conflicts in design. I'm still a bit undecided about the tuition of 3d modeling in architecture school, when I was a student we just made models with our hands, and i'm grateful for that and what it taught me! There was an interesting post on archinect recently about someone arguing for architects to leave the 'rendering' to the pros! 12 Reasons to Refuse to Render! | YOUNG ARCHITECT
I'm doing what I'm doing these days because it took me 4 years to realize that the list was all true and then i had no choice but to get out and go freelance! Thankfully though, I love what i do! -
