Character Creation - The Body ShopCharacter development forum for users to post and recieve critiques! WIP's
Max - It's the WIP that never ends! Plus a new concept!
So here's a WIP that keeps on going and going and going... His name is Max (the cat... I've heard rat, mouse, and others i'm trying to go for the cat look ), It is a character that I am putting together:
PS - Again i am using crappy Tripod links, to be able to view these images, you will need to open a new browser, and paste the link into that browser. just clicking on the link will not open the image.
You may be asking... "That looks pretty complete to me, what else needs to be done?", Well that version of the model is done, however; I found out that that model had several errors when attempting to animate (mainly with the body). So now i ported this model over to Maya Unlimited (was being built in TS) and I am now redoing the model. I am currently working on the face, and I am completly redoing the body. you can see it by going to the tripod link below:
I've been working on the above model for some time now, so I'm putting it on hold, and I have a new concept that I will hopefully get some time to start. He will be a Australian themed Kangaroo (ie hat, a shirt, mabye boomerang... mabye). When I get some rough sketchs i'll post them up...

Hey I have seen this guy before somewhere? Perhaps the Caligari forums? Anyway I stayed up all last night and modified this forum so that it supported file/image uploading for viewing in your post. I ask that you visit the following thread and read the announcement and the guidelines we ask you to abide by before using the feature, and then just look for the option above the 'Preview' & 'Submit' buttons. Thanks for the participation!
Yup your right, that is on the caligari forum. It's been there for almost a year now. I was done with it a few months ago, then went "shoot i have to do it over again!" and now i am almost back to square one ! So i'm taking a break from it for an indefinate amount of time. Read the announcment about uploading images, sweet. I'll use it spareingly... when I get some new material. Since this is already up, I'll leave the links as they are, they work... round-a-about-way... but work.

Looked familiar n was about to mention the Caligari board. Pretty good model, but sucks you have to redo it. If you don't mind my asking, why did you choose to take it into Maya? Just wondering. I know absolutely nothing about animation.. or creating deformations.. but the idea of learning how and trying it when I finish with what I'm putting together has been playing on my mind.

Why did I take it into Maya? The simple answer, is to prepare myself . I'm trying to get into the 3D biz, and I decided to move on to the software that professionals use. I am a current college student, and I was able to get the academic version for a mere $750 (cheap compared to $6999). I've toyed with both 3dmax, and Maya, however; Maya seems to be better suited for what I want. It's great for animating/modeling (although 3Dmax has it's advantages), oh *drool the IK-skeletons are so easy to create. It's not like truespace (put a bone CRASH, try again... put a bone CRASH), and also it has some really cool features that TS doesn't.
Maya Unlimited takes a little while to get into it, but man is it worth it. It is an excellent program. I've talked to professionals and they say that the Big 3 (Ie, Lightwave, 3D Studio Max, Maya/Unlimited) are quite a ways ahead of TrueSpace, in capabilities and features. I'd have to agree, I love TS, but Maya is excellent!

Yeah as with the bear, haven't had much time.. however i did doodle around with him just recently. Someone else commented that it looked like a rat instead of a cat... so i went and tried to fix that once and for all. Closer now... but not perfect. Also, I think I may stick with this body, I really like how this one came out, and i Think i can get it to work correctly for animation... think my problem was skeletons. So much easier to build skeletons in maya then truespace 6.5

As some who loves MAYA I just wanted to say good choice. Also if you have any question let me know, I did notice one thing that might cause problems later, some of your bones are orientated in the wrong direction and you should separate some of the parts for better control, just a tip. let me know how it comes.
