Design Challanges - Charrette's/Themed ChallengesThemed challenges. Hopefully we will have some cool competitions and prizes.
Charrette#10 - Holiday and New Year Livingroom Challenge No.2
Well, as this year comes to an end, we think it is good to close it and start a new year with a challenge... some time ago we had holiday living room challenge... now it is living room again.
This is simple scene, but I hope it has potential for you people to get interested and join in.
I modeled all of the material inside except barcelona chair which is from Evermotion free stuff section and credit goes to Zuliban, thanks to him for his generous donation of models for 3d community...
I think no further introduction is needed, rules and criteria are mostly well known... just couple of notes -
- viewpoints are by your choice, but at least one should be close to the first reference image, for sake of comparing results...
- as we welcome the software pluralism, material is presented in more formats, but originally it was done in max, so it is most accurate file, here we give it in raw, no textures version, format max 9... conversion is made carefully in Modo format, all of the objects are checked and repaired for eventual mistakes, so the Modo format is also fine... lwo and .obj are conversion from Modo, while .dwg and .3ds are conversion from Max... Those formats should be sufficient to get most of you started. However, if some of you spot a problem with, say, lwo format, I hope you will let us know and perhaps take an action to repair something if possible... same goes for other formats...
- deadline and prizes - that will be discussed latter on, but the deadline should be within the range of two months and winner will get some useful CG content, like furniture models or textures...
So, let us get started, I hope you will enjoy this one!
Here are some reference images and models
Good luck to all!
Admin Notes:
1.) All credit for the materials provided should go to '3DAllusions' when posting images off site.
2.) You are free to post the renders to other sites and forums , we expect you to put a link to this site/challenge thread. Thanks

Re: charrette#10- Christmass and New Year livingroom challenge no.2
Admin Note: As we make corrections or increase file formats we will add them to these first three post, so please check back as the challenge continues to stay up to date.
Clarification on Assignment and Duration:
Typically in these challenges we do not want to see you mimic exactly the original rendering, instead we want to see your creative interpretation of the scene. Typically individuals change decor, re-arrange and add or subtract furniture, use there own color schemes and have even been known to add a window or skylight. Basically tweak the scene in a fashion that it is obvious in the end that the scene you were given is the scene you have rendered, only done your way!
Since final images are typically attached (we prefer your final submissions atleast be attached, so that hopefully the thread stays intact over a length of time) the maximum size is an 800x800 based on the forum settings, so your final image should have one dimension around 800 pixels and the other dimension is less than or equal to 800 pixels based on your images proportions. No stringent guidelines, we are here to have fun and learn from one another.
Challenges usually go for around two months and prior to that time we look at how active the challenge is and if we think it is warranted we may extend it, but you should plan on two months being the maximum time and have it done by then. We post official due dates once it has been determined, but the goal here is to have fun, improve your craft and receive feedback from the community.
Hopefully that answers your questions, basically you have been given a great scene by Branko, render it with your interior design/architect taste and show us "Whatcha U Got"!
Re: charrette#10- Christmass and New Year livingroom challenge no.2
Should not be too heavy, it is simple scene, though the soft parts of furniture are a bit heavier for the graphic card, so it is good to keep it in wire frame or bounding box mode... but it also depends on the software...
Re: Charrette#10 - Holiday and New Year Livingroom Challenge No.2
WOW, Great, another challenge. The room looks great. Fantastic challenge indeed. Lots of variations can be done. I am sure this challenge going to be tremendously successfull. Definitely I will participate overhere. THANKS BRANKO
