rendering and texturing a living room
Hello All,
..Just yesterday-evening..
and I stumbled on this place..
..and I was immediatly captured by D_signs challenge.
Never thought of such a limited but none-the-less overwhelming challenge..
"just textures and lightning.."
rendering and texturing a living room
My endeavours so far make me think of a "morgue"-family-mourning-room.
But I rather think of it as a
"redone Hockney; 20 Years After" (need to add a swimming-pool and it's water reflectons haunting the ceiling)
or perhaps a Woody Allen interior.
I simply could not resist to use the Belgian hotelroom wallpaper,
(http://members.home.nl/rouweler4/interiors00.html)
but I restrained my-self and did not make it go it allover..that is,
I excluded the ceiling as a hommage to modern insights,
although Margritte might feel humiliated.
As I am writing this TrueSpace is munching out a render, (slowly, ever slowly as things go while waiting)
(no volumetrics, just plain raytracing...)
more or less from the desired default camera view.
The import of the *.obj-file of the livingroom worked out better than the 3.ds-version
I put some of my own digital renders in the frames of course
Just to add to the atmosphere and mood.
Both texturing and lighting leave probably much better finetuning..
But I'll be back...

thanks for your compliments Russel! I'll be posting my next render soon after which I will be choosing a second placement for a camera without hopefully without loosing the dynamic feeling I'm trying to create.
Silvia:
Let me know if my screenshots are helpfull. If they are not, I can always post a ZIP containing the curtain I used.
Man&Mouse:
Welcome fellow Dutchman looking forward to see some updates

Thank You Al
(lusionist),
I am an old hand, but probably not to forking in
or out forums,
but I guess I'll get the hang of it,
especially as this was a very nice "forum-discovery"...
Although I tend to think ofd myself as someone interested in
reconstructing architectureimpressions imagined.. Reconstructions reflecting the mood and atmosphere of places (and architecture) once visited, in reality or imaginary.
Interiors or the surrounding environment with mysterious lightfall or crisp detail...
Challenges like the specific one are very intersting (and challenging of course).
I have only sampled a very small part of 3DAllusions sofar,
but it certainly tastes like more/yummy is this a place where I belong?
I did not "field" a refererer registring yesterday, but I came here from one of the Caligary forums.
Very nice site..
and I was imedetately won over..
When my final (will it ever be?) render is satisfactorally,
I will translate/save it as a vrml-world
in trueSpace and keep you updated,
(a private passion from a year ago; publishing walktrough worlds, http://members.home.nl/worlds/
etc...
Greeting from Groningen

Hey, my names not 'Al'! LOL
Yes, I am very familiar with the Caligari site, I used TS for years (May or may not update to 7), started using it around TS 3.0. Glad you like this site, we try, we have been a little lazy lately because we are having the main site proffesionally done and have big plans, but they have been working on it for months and it has been anti-climatic for us We have been having one major contest a year with sponsors and cool prizes and once the new site is up and content filled in we will look into the next one. I think challenges like this one are good since they don't take up as much personal time as a full blown contest and I can even throw something in for the fun of it. We look forward to seeing more of your post and work in the future! Welcome Aboard!

I'm working on two Shockwave 3D projects ( which are both free to use, for individual 3D artists showing their portfolio ), so I just imported the basic scene and tried it out.
The scene seems to handle well in real-time, it's been modelled excellently!
Do any of you work in real-time, as well as do pre-rendered stuff?
Mal
Hello Mal_CanDo,
Yep,
as the next Interior and probably Exterior Desacreator,
I can only admit
that I can be found
working out of bound(s)
in real time (or what-ever-it-is-worth)
I do vermel a lot.
I still think it is the nicest way of giving people a look over once shoulder, if not through your own eyes..
My worls(vrml) are here: http://members.home.nl/worlds/
To start with, and a few indexpages up or further.
I am not one to easely boast, but I have made about two virtual exhibititions
of my digital output in pavillion- and museum-like surroundings: http://members.home.nl/worlds/bluemoongatepoetry.wrl
and: http://members.home.nl/worlds/musee23_5_2.wrl
I will get back to you regarding your work ASAP (having to view them better than sofar)
Greetings

Well, I feel this a warm welcome at this/your place,
thanking you and all all of the others
for making that happen.
Having discovered by now how to use the forum,
and having seen a lot of the awesome commitement/output of
my enthousiast co-forum colleagues,
I will try some variations (isnt that what life is all about:..)
on the generously offered 3d, by D_sign.
As my moods can change much, expect quite some moody changes.
NIce to be here
Marcel

Well, quick;
here is the a/next "variation" as promised.
Still (BTW, thanks Remco too:
lets keep it/them flying... them Dutchmen, although I feel more like someone living in them
Netherlands, and although having lived in Amsterdam for a few years,
Ï feel still a bit of a backwater boy, O.K. not ecactly, but close...)
..Still in the parlour-(undertakers-)atmosphere.
Not having changed much, only the light-setup with an area-light..
and some other (but as I am working unnoticed changes..)
...here is the a/next "variation"
A bit morose probably, will do my best to output more cheerfull stuff soon
Greetings
and tanx for the warm welcome
Marcel

No harm was meant.
And I am still in awe for all the good works.

No insult was taken, I just had to respond in kind! LOL Quick question, are those actual attached images at the bottom of your post? I was trying to figure out if you had some fancy rotating image that looked like an attachment, but I see they are real attachments! LOL
The render is getting better, still kind of dark to me, but that is subjective
