Yes, very interesting... If I understood correctly, participants can not add detailes to geometry exept textures and displacement?
Ok, so it will be texturing task, but do not forget lightning! Daylight simulation, or we can try to simulate nightlights with ambient light and selfiluminating maps for windows... It could be also interesting...
Anyway, my skyscrapper is quite different - it is glass skinned Mies Van Der Rohe derivation, so the basic task there will be to create good glass skinn - level of transparency/translucency vs reflection etc. and lightning+enviroment of course. I am almost finished, but job again pop in, so it can take some time... Now that you come with this idea Russel, we can do my skyscrapper after... I hope people will not get bored with skyscrapper theme...

Well I wasn't trying to steel your thunder, just trying to give some time to complete yours, just thought this might be an interesting challenge to give people something to work on while they were waiting for the next great download model. I thought it might be interesting texturing challenge because there is not a lot of geometry to work with, sort of like a game level Members should let us know if this even sounds like an iteresting challenge. If yours will be ready soon we can just go with that, so let me know what you think, I just didn't want to put pressure on you

Hi guys,
i'm reading with interest your last post,
i think the exterior rendering is a good challenge for me, coz i'm just a newbie in rendering, and i learn a lot with the D.sign scene, and i must learn with the exterior scene too...
with the challenge here, i can see the different way ,how to the participant approch the work, and that's give me some ideas for my own, so thanks a lot for that...

Does that mean you would be interested in the low poly model with the challenge being to add detail through textures, or wait for the more detailed Hi-rise?

Hey, Russell, I did not mean that you steel my thunder with your idea... In fact I like it very much. Game level or mass/shadow study model that is realy interesting. Let's go with that, till I finish mine
My skyscrapper is completely different task... But it will be also simple model, not much geometry, easy to handle so the participants do not get too much trouble dealing with such big building...

OK, I just didn't want to de-rail the momentum of your contributions by throwing something out when you had something in mind that you were working on for us I will try to get the model in shape and up and proceed later today hopefully

Just so all the entrants know, d.sign and the 3DA team are making our selections, it is an unusual process since some of us are kind of smitten with creativity and mood while others are leaning towards render quality. In addition D.sign has pointed out that perhaps the amount of participation and all that the participants contributed should be taken into account, so you can see how hard this actually is.
Once the top three are selected we will start a gallery just for challenges and put the top three winning images in each time we have a challenge, a sort of challenge spotlight and we will get a little something off to the winner. Just a little bit longer.
