Hi all,

I´m having a hard time to try to get the effect of "iluminated/caustic" water particles, specially in the areas it gets "whiter".

Right now I´m trying to get something close to what I want by tweaking the A&D material im max 2011 plus I´m working on the caustic settings but the effect I desire looks like a sort of inner caustics and my material refractions gets too dark either

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ricardo

This is such a bad question but I am not gettinghtis to work. I downloaded a MR Shader from Mr Materials and installed the mat file in my materiallibrary folder in max. It was an arroway stone material. It does not show up in the material library. What am I not doing or doing wrong?

For anyone who needs a quick fast way to produce an occlusion pass you may want to have a look at boomerlabs occlusion pass generator. I myself am finding it useful. I'm a beginner basically when it come to using mental ray and after years of using the scanline renderer this is kinda fun.

Hi all,

I'm new in this community and I decided to join because I'm trying to improve my rendering skills and learning a bit more about mentalray, and I saw that this website offers a lot of usefull info.
I've been reading some docs and watching tutorial (big thank to Jeff Patton, really nice material) and decided to apply what I learned to a model I'm currently building.
The problem I'm running into is that no matter what I do, I can't get the colors in my scene to match the one in the material editor or in general it seems the lights are washing out the colors a lot.I had to push the color all the way to a super saturated orange to get that light yellow.

You can see the setup for the scene in the attached pictures: the photometric lights have intesity that goes from about 400 candela to 200.
I've also attached a picture that show the results I get in the render, the material (I'm using a car paint material for this test, but I got similar issues with the Arch&Design) and the photomotric exposure setup ( the whitepoint is set to 6500, same as the lights color)

Thanks in advance for any help you could provide.

cheers,
Fabio
