In skyscraper-crazy Dubai, tall isn't enough. In a design to be unveiled today in the oil-rich emirate, David Fisher, an Italian-Israeli architect, has dreamed up a 68-story combination hotel, apartment and office tower where the floors would rotate 360 degrees. Each floor would rotate independently, creating a constantly changing architectural form.
Yet all experience is an arch wherethro’ Gleams that untravell’d world, whose margin fades For ever and for ever when I move. How dull it is to pause, to make an end.....
Im not so keen no this concept. Seen it some while ago. Its just isnt architecture anymore IMO.
When designing a project one has to rethink all the elements so that they work together. Not easy at all.
What happened here? Movement instead of form.
Hey I have no real opinion on this, I just happened to think after your post and looking at the images 'Form follows Function' and that cracked me up because that is 'architectural'. My problems with it are more practical, like maintenance, waste of resources, becoming an amusement ride of architecture. But I still think it has merit, just some of my own personal bias playing a part of my preception.

Yes it is unique and perphaps should get some kind of gratification. I hope this is just a trend that will fade away after a couple of these will be built. But yeah the waste of energy here is unjustified.
I probably sound like loony when I say that Dubai architecture could not be called architecture for some time now... as my friend said, they building a Babylon there...
I know that such a statement need elaborating, but I have no time to go in depth here, perhaps I will post a thread on that sometime. I think Horhe covered one of the aspects very good in just a couple of words... but I believe it is not just this building, it is all that is happening there in past decade... Apart from Dubai becoming place for architects to build up their egos, we should be asking ourselves about message of that architecture. We forget that architecture is not just building and utility... it is always there to say something to pass some message, to have a meaning... And Russell, I believe that practical and functional is deeply rooted and inherent in architectural essence and if something is fallen out of the meaning and essence, chances are it will break the tie with practical and functional too...
Dubai is now become an experimental area for Architects. They have lots of money and they are spending like anything. Architects have a huge oportunity to experiment there concepts and skills. I dont know what will be the future or where it will stop but atleast we are getting different topics for discuss LOL!
