LOL... Something like that I had in mind when I started with architecturall studies... as one of the bigest rock musicions in my country once said - I started to play guitar cause girls like guitar players...
Thats actually amazing to me since you have such a theoretical nature to you. I didn't want to be a starving artist (dad was a musician and we were very poor, didn't want to repeat that mistake) and I was very good in math and science so I thought architecture would be a good mix of art and science. I didn't know after a while all the art went out of it and I would become a pencil pusher! LOL Of course the fact that people respected architects and thought they made lots of money (Hey, I was under that misconception as well) didn't hurt. Of course when my home towns local newspaper published all the local graduates degrees, they some how made a mistake and put me down as graduating with a degree in agriculture and animal husbandry, so that ruined my chances with the ladies, they all thought I was pulling a George Costanza (Sienfield series) when I said my degree was in architecture! LOL

I am kidding of course... I started with architecture for the same reason as you did, kind of mixture of art and science...
Actually that is funny story in my familly... My gradmother wanted to study architecture, but than came a WWII and all that was forgoten, after she got kids and so on... Than my father wanted to study, he was really tallented for graphical arts, but it was kind of underrated at that time, they forced him to go for electrical engineering...
Finally, me, third generation, finished the studies... and it took me a while...
I discovered beauty, history and theory of architecture rather late in my studies, actually near the end, when preparing for Modern architecture history exame... In the period of some two months I literally swalowed all the books on the subject I could get... so I started to buy and read books on architecturall history, theory and all I could find... lucky for me, my english is quite good, so I could read reall stuff... not much of that was translated on my language at that time...
