underground warehouse and shelters...

my brother sent me this and i found it quite interesting...i don't know how many cities have considered this (i imagine in this case it might be built parallely to subway construction)

original (english site)
Secret underground warehouse in Tokyo (video) ::: Pink Tentacle

(spanish one)
Almacenes subterráneos secretos en Tokio Mare Magnum

there is some desertic places that are clamed to be huge shelters in case a major catastrophy occurs in USA.

i remember a NG magazine where they showed a mine used to get rid of hazardous materials underground...but it was getting to it's limit really soon...and that place was really BIG.

check it out and if you have some related material i'd be more than happy to read about...

Re: underground warehouse and shelters...

I can visualize some underground place our government has fully stocked to last a 100 years while they maintain a database of those who are bright and whose phsy profiles match wht they think would be a good gene pool for a new humanity all waiting to go into action when a nuculear war starts! LOL

On a show called dirty jobs they had an episode showing a salt mine, I believe, and it went on for every they drove cars around down there.

Examples of salt mines:

Wieliczka Salt Mine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Exploring the Cleveland Salt Mine

These examples aren't as cool as the one I was talking about, in taht one there were no man made supports I belive and it was all very wide and exapansive.

Re: underground warehouse and shelters...

Yes, your second image reminds me more of what I remember seeing, giant caverns, actually very cool, but a type of silence that I think you wouldn't find except for outside of a sensory deprevation tank! LOL

Re: underground warehouse and shelters...

Don't know much about salt domes, but if they are anything like coal mines you won't go there for quiet. There is all sorts of movement and weird noises hehehe like the mother in law sleeping in the next room, give me the tank!!!

Re: underground warehouse and shelters...

I get the impression that if you are the only one in there with the lose salt on the floors if you sat still and turned off the lights that it was a pitch black, perfectly quiet and eary sensation. But I have never been in one, just what I heard. I also can just visualize someone playing a trick on me and turning off all the lights and me wandering miles of corridors in the dark, good times! LOL
