Re: Mental Ray vs Vray......which one is better ?

It depends on what you want to do and what you are used to.
I used to use MR until I came across a project that needed Afterburn. Well at that time MR did not support it, I went with Vray and have never picked up mental ray since. Now I am so familiar with Vray that if I have to use MR for something it takes me longer cause I have to remember how to use it

I have seen some really great renders using both so I don't really think that it is a one is better than the other, it's more knowing the tools.

Now having said all that....I love Vray. I find it easier to use, more intuitive and has a lot of tweaks I wasn't able to do/find in MR.

Re: Mental Ray vs Vray......which one is better ?

For me it came down to the cost of being legal and owning four seats of Max, just too much to own four sets of Vray as well, mental ray is included, so for me just easier to focus on what we can use right out of the box. I created MrMaterials.com to try and make materials readily available for mr users. Would be nice if people would have contributed more, but it has around 100,000 members and any time the site is down for maintenance I hear about it, a lot of people use the site.

I do think it really is what you are use to and before, using XSI and for those using Maya as well, only having to know one render engine made since, with that said Vray is available for pretty much everything, at a cost of course. Maxwell is also a kick but render engine OT

Re: Mental Ray vs Vray......which one is better ?

They are both great renderers, I have seen/ read endless discussions on which one is better...This may sound like a politically correct statement, but I feel that end of the day, the output really depends on the skill and knowledge of the artist, and the time spent on any given image. You can find mediocre work done using top notch renderers, and vice versa. What I would suggest is that you go with what you are personally comfortable with, and enjoy using (and of course, the cost factor, if you are funding the licenses from your own pocket )
Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible.

Thank you so much Russell, Neha, Aubrey and Ronel for the suggestions. Some nice and useful info. Actually I am using MR long time and I love A&D Materials. I don't know in Vray their are such a strong material are there or not but both are fantastic.

    hello!

    They are both great renders.

I think there is no need to contrast, it all depends on personal habits and preferences.

and they have their own advantages and disadvantages .

The MGC Chatbox Evo is really easy to use

You can :

  2. Format the chats :
  3. once you un-collapse the chatbox formatting toolbar by clicking on the BBCode button, you have access to different formatting options for your chats. You can format a chat by selecting a part (or the totality) of it and then select one of the buttons/list. You can also add empty formatting tags by selecting nothing and clicking one of the buttons/menu thus allowing you to add the chat text afterwards between these tags.*
  4. Access to the different channels : you can have access to different channels restricted to only some usergroupds or for specifics use of the chatbox. The different channels are accessible from the buttons on the left of the chatbox.*
