Re: Show us your Workstation

That is the one thing about the flat panel monitors, you have so much more space on your desk, and actually I took the opportunity to clean my area up prior to taking the photos, not showing what a slob I am was my motivation there

Dual vs Widescreen question really comes down to the software you use and your workflow and probably your electricty bill! LOL In the end at the job I just left, I had dual monitors and one was a widescreen, so I had the best of both worlds. On programs that will not take advantage of dual monitors like Revit, the widescreen is really handy because your drawings list and other stuff is along the left side and really eats up a lot of space, so a widescreen is almost a must for efficient work on programs like that.

To me a dual monitor setup is like doubling up your computers. For example while I am texturing in one window I have PS open with my last rendering to compare and make adjustments, being able to look and compare two screens at once is very nice for me, of course you could do this on a wide screen but it would get a bit cramped. In addition programs like SketchUp have tons of of pop up panels that have info and controls that are reall handy to have available, so I have them all open on the secondary monitor and work freely with lots of space on the primary monitor. To tell the truth, I avoid working with SU without two monitors now. Two monitors come in really handy for all the work I have to do on the site, having one monitor for Internet control of admin areas and the other for text editors, PS and windows explorer just makes my life easier. I also just seem to like having two equally sized monitors in front of me, one wide and one normal made me feel lopsided.

D.sign, I won't be upgrading for a while, but two fo the flat panels are Dell UltraScans and I like them the best of all the ones I have tried, very nice monitors, funny there is a color difference between them and the two ViewSonics I have there at home, next purchase will be a calibration system.

kiittea, The tablet screens are 'DA BOMB!', the only reason I have a laptop is for that feature, and like I mentioned I have a sloped rotating stand, but your lap or a table work fine as well. To tell the truth, I really haven't gotten to use it as much as I wanted, mainly in airports and hotel rooms when I had to travel in my last job, digital painting is something I plan on doing soon.

Now I look forward to seeing everyones work areas, it isn't a contest, if it was I would have taken a picture of an Etch-A-Sketch on a TV stand to lure you guys into posting, just a way to get to know each other better. For instance, I am betting if DirectorBob shows us his, there will be a 'Makita' or 'Snap-On' tool poster on the wall with a scantily dressed "tool girl"!

Actaully though, I have all the hardware and software (OK, I have more wants, but no needs) I ever wanted, so to speak, I can hit render and have 8 CPU's work on a rendering, I have high end applications, no excuses now for not doing good work, I have it all as far as hardware and software, but not the damn time to use them like I want, the site, etc. suck away my time That is about to change, but my point is that I couldn't be happier with what I have, may sound materialistic, but I struggled for years using entry to mid level software/hardware and now I have the best stuff and just have to start really using it, no complaints.

Re: Show us your Workstation

Thanks for the info Russell...
Just recently I got into oportunity to upgrade both software and hardware, time for me to go for some better screens, View Sonic is my aim, best that I can afford and find here... beside screens, one new workstation is also on my list, I wish I could go for brend machine by BOXX or something like that, but that is difficult to get in my end of the world country... so I will settle with intell quad core, just for rendering...
Anyway, I can really understand your passion for having such hardware and software... not a materialistic at all... but even now whan you have more time for working with it, I think you would not be able to use it all - the more you engage in specific work, the less time you will have and more you will focus on certain tools - said law of the specialisation... though, all that is sure good to have...
In my experience, three computers is more than I can handle, untill I get office out of the house... which I plann for the near future... but till then, unstable electrical instalation at my home can handle this much, with two screens and aircondition most of the summer on... anyway, here are couple of shots...

Re: Show us your Workstation

Hey a plant on the desk even My place is actually half underground so if I open the curtains I am looking out at shrubs and landscaping, however, I keep them closed so that people don't know about all my computers, would be a real bummer to have it all stolen

Thanks for sharing, and it looks like you have good chairs, very important. That is the one thing I didn't get prior to going out on my own and that was someting like a Herman Miller Aeron or Mirra chair, perhaps in the near future, just because ergonamics are so important.

Truthfully your wife claims one of these, doesn't she? LOL just kidding

Re: Show us your Workstation

Poure plant does not seem to grow at all... guess the screens bother it... and yes, actually my wife claims one of those, but she draw back her position... she go to work elswhere every day... I still hope to get her back into this work with me...
About chairs... well, I know a bit about that, I used to work for furniture dealer, saw and tried lot of good stuff, best perhaps, vitra, alias, name it... but I use to sit on one middle price nice looking chair and it was great... Those chairs I have now look much better than they actually are... good point you have there, I need to look out for that also... the thing is, I can buy one good PC or two good chairs... really good office chairs here are about 600$ or more... eames aluminium chair by vitra in leather they sell here for about 1500$...

Re: Show us your Workstation

I do not know much about office furniture, just know that I have never felt uncomfortable or any aches and pains while using HM Aeron or Mirra chair, but to date I haven't dished out $750 to $1,500 for one, just yet I have to say the HM is kind of like Recaro seats in a Porsche, SWEET!

Re: Show us your Workstation

Thanks Neil... yes, my working area may look huge now, it was made when my kid was just a baby, now, you see by that cat, she is bigger and take up much more room. So I plan to move into dinning area, separate it with glass blocks and make there working room... dinning table will be small and ocuppy half of the space where my workstation now is...
I will post the wips on my appartment project and development...
Main problem with it will be execution, I hate to deall with construction workers...

Re: Show us your Workstation

I also hate the construction work. I am bit lazy. My father always tells me do some renovation of the house, do that thing, do this thing for the house. Just after that my mother starts, first do the gardening properly. In that situation I always run away from them.
I really interested to see your appartment and your kid's photograph.
