Future of Max and what Users would like to see

An online acquaintence of mine is working on a book for 3D Max and was asking me if I received much input in what you guys would like to see in the software and where your interest are. If you would like to add your input into what you would like to see in a book and in Max itself, feel free to add your comments, they are looking for what the users want. I will pass your comments along.

Here is the direct question I received:

Quote:
Do you get any feedback from users regarding what they expect from a new 3dsmax version or what do you think a book should contain, I mean where are the users interests?
So speak up if you want to try to make a difference in the resources available to you firstly and secondly where you would like to see the program go.

Re: Future of Max and what Users would like to see

Well, the question need some thinking deffinitely, but on the first hand I can speak as arch-viz max user - I would like to see some improvements in the area of landscape and plants modeling and texturing - it is something that has not developed for some time. Second is rather utopistic idea of new GI engine to include(say Vray instead of Mental Ray)... Other improvements that already take place tell me that Max going in the right direction... As for the book - well Max cover realy broad area and I must advocate our field of archviz, always felt that we was a bit neglected under the game design and character design field... So little more coherent reading on the modeling techniques (including editable poly) for architecture and of course - lightning as most important issue...

Re: Future of Max and what Users would like to see

Russell, this is good question and need some time to think and then go for the answer. Let me think and collect what things I need in 3dsmax to work more eficiently and in less time. The current version is great for architectural visualization.

Talking Re: Future of Max and what Users would like to see

I think the thing that I would like to see the most in MAX is the ability to file link Architectural Desktop drawings to MAX much in the same way that you can link ADT to VIZ. I haven't used version 7 or 8, but when I started using version 6 I was happy to see that the AEC plugins used in VIZ were now in MAX.

Re: Future of Max and what Users would like to see

I imagine they are keeping the feature, I think they would like to eliminate Viz and make Max the default ArchViz tool.

Re: Future of Max and what Users would like to see

I am not sure about that. I think they will keep cheaper solutions for a while, cause that is also way to get the money from people that can not (or do not want to) afford more expensive general tools as MAX. MAX was not intended as archiz tool in my opinion. That side they start to develop more from version 5. Under presure from archviz community probably... ANd Viz is realtively good specialized tool, I think (and hope) they will keep it...

Re: Future of Max and what Users would like to see

ArchViz community is exactly why Viz is still around, they tried to kill it a couple times but got bad feedback, we will just have to keep our fingers crossed that they got the point and Viz is around for a long time.
