Lighting issue I am guessing.

Hi all first post and noobie to MR,

So Here is an image I can only show part of to rectify my problem I will do the best I can do show you and tell you guys whats going on.

So this is the image:
img405.imageshack.us/img405/6784/probi.jpg

I have two Mr spot lights because I can't get the gold to look right, plus the material/shader I am using makes it as if the gold is see through which I do not like.

So If I place the lights correctly at certain parts these light artifacts disappear but I can't get the gold to give me that nice look.

So any help would be kick ass, please I am trying to complete this task and since I am new I need all the help I can get so I can stop bugging you all for the answer .

But to add I have been trying various methods and I am having no luck, plus the render takes about 15 mins at 640x480.

Using caustics, a glass material/shader to "cheat" the gemstone look and this gold material/tutorial:

tutorialplanet.net/2009/05/29/creating-realistic-gold-material-in-3ds-max/comment-page-1/

But it seems to only look great with sphereical objects or I am doing something wrong.

Image is too small to tell what is going on, for me atleast.

Re: Lighting issue I am guessing.

Found out that all you have to do when you get splotches of color like this is start max freshly and located the trouble max file through your folders (NOT within max but out side of it) then drag and drop the troubled file into the view port and MERGE not open the file and just click render!

Poof problems gone, why? I have no idea but it worked for me.

Thanks Allusionist for replying

Re: Lighting issue I am guessing.

To be honest, I never had that sort of splotches, only those when you have the settings too low. I'm glad you solved your problem in a very strange manner but now I know what to do if I get the same problems you did!!
