This is a very cool idea for a competition, I would like to be a part of it.
Attached is a rough sketch of my idea for this. The house would be on a floating platform, which is anchored to the bottom of a fairly deep waterway with several flexible cables. Along these cables are small tube-like water turbines that use the water current to power the house. These turbines are hollow and blade-less, so they pose little danger to marine life passing by. From what I've found, no technology like this exists now, so this idea may be a bit futuristic. I think that's okay though, I like the idea so far. The setting is a large mountain waterway in Alaska, and the shot would be over-under water.
I look forward to developing this idea, let me know what you think.
I think it's a very cool and unique idea. Good stuff.
It will be interesting to see how you incorporate the underwater elements in the scene.
Good Luck!
I just wanted to post some update images of my imagined underwater turbines. These are probably more detailed than you will be able be to see in my final scene, but I got a little carried away when making them. Anyway, as I said in my first post, these are just a (futuristic) concept because I can't find any technology like this that really exists as of right now. The concept is that the turbines are hollow tubes and blade-less, and are caused to spin slowly by water passing through them (like the rifling of a gun barrel). This is so they can generate power for my floating house, but pose little danger to fish and other life in the water. Let me know what you think.
Neat idea and nice model too. How about a fin of some sort to keep the turbines aligned to the flow of the tide, like a rudder. Not that it needs it, just an idea.
Funny how easy it is to get carried away
