    Andy Thomas - Nature reclaiming

    Hi all,

This will be my first ever competition entry, and I'm really looking forward to it!
After reading the brief, I had a bit of a crazy idea. I thought of having a scene where the ground / nature is reclaiming the site where the house is. What this means in terms of my scene would be a once nice dwelling, which has been abandoned and is being overtaken by foliage, the elements etc... Here are some sample images of the kind of thing I mean. I know this doesen't direcly follow the brief, but I think it could make a stunning, atmospheric final image.....and you can't really get more sustainable than nature and plants!

Re: OTG Challenge 17 - Nature reclaiming

Sounds like a very cool image, although I don't know if it really follows along with the competition. I say go for it though, sounds great to me and I know that I would really like to see the result!

The overall imagery can be stunning and integrated nature with your design in the competition is a great positive, but the final image should portray a structure that is inhabited at least some of the time and some indication of how it is habitable by alternate power supply should be present. Sustainable living of some sort, not a shell used for camping once in a while is the goal and the life style you are trying to capture.

All that said, If I was doing an entry, my personal taste would lean towards a location where the site is intertwining with the structures, a tree house comes to mind, but it would be an image consistent with archvis and not a fantasy picture. Hope that makes sense. No reason why nature can't intertwine with your entry in both the habitable structure and with the alternate power sources.

Good luck and welcome to the challenge, please provide your real name so I can rename your thread appropriately.

Re: OTG Challenge 17 - Nature reclaiming

    Thanks for you feedback guys.
Ok, I am going to slightly adjust my theme / image so that it falls more in line with the brief. My setting is going to be some point in the future, where society has broken down somewhat similar to the scenario in Mad Max. The only sources of power come from nature (i.e solar, wind) The house is inhabited, albeit nature is trying to take over the structure, as people dont have the time to renovate and repair their houses, they are simply trying to survive etc.... attached are some more inspiration pictures of the type of energy source I will probably use.

    Thanks again!Andy Thomas - Nature reclaiming-windmills.jpg

Re: OTG Challenge 17 - Nature reclaiming

    Hi all,

I got a bit carried away with modelling tonight, and have spent the last 3 hours modelling a waterwell and solar panel frame. These will be in my scene, half covered in planting / moss / ivy etc... but are pretty clean at the moment, other than a bit of displacement / dirt.Andy Thomas - Nature reclaiming-waterwell_rendered.jpgAndy Thomas - Nature reclaiming-solar_rendered2.jpgAndy Thomas - Nature reclaiming-solar_rendered.jpgAndy Thomas - Nature reclaiming-waterwell_rendered2.jpg

Very nice! Has a rusty, old, and earthy feel to it.

Not a problem, took care of it. Like how you are styling technology with natural elements, nice work.
